The self proclaimed King of afternoon sports talk radio, Howard Eskin, is leaving the airwaves after 25 years on Sports Radio 610 W.I.P.. Eskin made the announcement on Monday on his radio show and his twitter page.
"After 25 year this month at WIP giving up daily show to pursue new challenges in business. However, signing new deal WIP for Eagles games & more"
Eskin, who has been dethroned by 97.5 the Fanatic's Mike Missanelli for the top sports talk show in Philly, was a legend in Philly sports talk radio for 25 years. Although he was hated by a lot of people, they continued to tune in to what he had to say on a daily basis.
Eskin leaves at a time of change in the Philadelphia Sports Talk world. Rumors continue to swirl that 610 W.I.P. will take over 94.1 WYSP's FM feed looking to compete more with their rival 97.5 the Fanatic.
My sources tell me that it is all rumor right now, but it looks like it is heading in that direction.
I would like to wish the best to Howard Eskin. I didn't really like you that much, I admit I am a 97.5 the Fanatic listener; however, I respect you greatly. Giving 25 years to this city and their teams is truly amazing. Best of luck Howard.
