Cole Hamels was at his best last night, with no offense behind him. Hamels was on his game with eight strikeouts last night through eight innings.
Cole ran into a little trouble in the fifth inning, bases loaded and two outs, Albert Pujols stepped to the plate. Pujols, however, was first pitch swinging and popped out to Chase Utley.
In the seventh Cole got a little offense when Raul Ibanez stepped to the plate and tripled! Two batters later, Carlos "Chooch" Ruiz hit a sacrifice fly to right field and gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead. With how Hamels was pitching, fans thought that was all Hamels needed.
Cole came out for the ninth inning, stretches by doesn't deliver. Why? Another idiotic fan runs on the field, this time disrupting the game. Let's be honest, if you are truly a Phillies fan and truly love this team, you do not do anything that disrupts Cole Hamels great outing. When Cole saw the umpire call time, Cole looked behind him only to be disappointed that a fan ran on the field. Once the fan was taken off the field Cole gave up two straight doubles that tied the game 1-1. Cole was then pulled for Brad Lidge (who got the Phillies out of the inning).
Now no one really knows if the fan disturbed Hamels mojo, but by the look on Hamels face, it looked as if the fan really took Cole out of the game.
The game headed to extras, where in the bottom of the tenth and no outs, Carlos "CHOOCH" Ruiz stepped up to the plate and hit it just over the flower bed for a walk off home run.
Chooch's two RBI game gives the Phillies a 2-1 final in ten innings!
